Skype Journal's Founders

Stuart Henshall and Phil Wolff started blogging about Skype when it launched in 2003. Phil took off for an 18-month political campaign in 2004, but Stuart continued to blog about Skype.

Stuart started SkypeJournal.com in February 2005 and recruited Bill Campbell to join in the blogging fun. Stuart left Skype Journal in early 2006 is now marketing vice president for a digital identity startup. Bill Campbell left Skype Journal mid-2006.

Stuart Henshall

photo of Stuart Henshall by Doc SearlsStuart began evangelizing the potential impact of Skype just days after they launched. What began as two questions “What’s your Skype strategy?” and “What’s your presence strategy?” is typical of Stuart’s desire to help build the opportunity horizon.

He’s been an active blogger (Unbound Spiral) and analyst in the VoIP, social networking, blogs and wiki space. He has been recognised by the industry, is often a panel participant and has made presentations at major industry conferences across continents.

Stuart was senior practitioner at GBN Global Business Network where he led scenario and futures projects in telecommunications, biotechnology, and consumer products. He has facilitated powerful change programs for the top teams at Dow Corning, General Mills, Motorola and HP Labs. His broad international background also includes roles as General Manager and VP Sales and Marketing in both Consumer Products and Retail.

He has taught public and private programs, including at the Haas School of Business (UCB) and University of Auckland Executive Programs. He’s been recognized by Entovation as a Global Knowledge Innovation Leader, while his papers include “Trust in Networks,” “The COMsumer Manifesto” and a short series on emerging P2P (peer to peer) environment.

W.J. (Bill) Campbell

photo of Bill Campbell by Phil WolffBill edited and co-wrote the first Skype API Guidebook, directed to the Skype development community. As CEO of Qzoxy Software Inc he developed a presence server for managing online user status. As the inaugural member of the Skype Developer Program he continues to be one of a handful to test all new Skype products. About a third of his career was spent as a manager with the Hewlett Packard Company. Fifteen years ago, Bill founded The PTCompany which specialized in business process reengineering and project management tools. Bill is applying his interest to growing the developer community around the Skype API.

Site Accessibility Policy

We aren't accessible. Not even close. But we should be and are trying. We eventually want to state:Rolling-Skyper.jpg

Skype Journal was designed to be accessible to all visitors. You'll notice clear and logical navigation tools throughout the site. Information should be easy to find. We follow popular Web accessibility guidelines promoted by industry and the disability community.

Visitors with disabilities may notice special features throughout the site that help make information available in alternative forms. In many cases, this functionality makes reading easier with text visible in large sizes and high contrasts. If you use screen reader software, you will find that photographs, charts, and illustrations are accompanied by text descriptions. The organization of each Web page is presented in a logical reading order maintained when assistive technology is used.

Help us improve accessibility. If you notice any Web site features that are difficult to use, please contact us.

Privacy Policy

  1. We don't collect any information that you don't volunteer.
  2. We will be clear about what information we expose.
  3. Cookies may be used to create a better user experience on this site if you opt in.
  4. We will not distribute your contact information (or other personal data) to third parties without your consent unless compelled by our ISP, compelled by law, or as needed for the operation and conduct of this site (service, repair, fact checking, etc.).
  5. We collect statistical data in the aggregate to understand our readership and ourselves.

Editorial Policy

  1. Accuracy. Anything that purports to be non-fiction should be true. Which means it should be accurate in fact and in context.
  2. Labeling and Sourcing. If we are not certain that something is accurate, we should either not publish it, or should make that uncertainty plain by clearly stating the source of this information and its possible limits and pitfalls. To take another example of making the quality of information clear, we believe that that if unnamed sources must be used, they would be labeled in a way that sheds light on the limits and biases of the information they offer.
  3. Explicit Conflicts of Interest. The content of anything that sells itself as journalism should be free of any motive other than informing its consumers. In other words, it should not be motivated, for example, by the desire to curry favor with an advertiser or to advance particular political interest. On the other hand, much of the content of this site has at least one point of view. We reserve the right to let our contributors opine, so long as author biases or conflicts are explicit and on record.
  4. Accountability. The contributors to this site hold ourselves as accountable as any of the subjects we write about. We are eager to receive complaints about our work, will investigate complaints diligently, and correct mistakes of fact, context, and fairness prominently and clearly.
  5. Caveat Lector. Information contained here is from sources believed to be reliable. This information is not necessarily complete.
